The Importance of Image

Regardless of the type of business or service it is an undeniable fact that if you don’t establish an image for your interests, one will be established for you. Don’t take the chance that it might be misinterpreted or, worse yet, deemed negative.

Graphic design, whether it be your logo, brochures, advertisements, even your website, should be more than just visually appealing; it should convey concepts and ideas as well.

Dickson Creative Services, a MASET partner, is in the business of helping businesses grow through media support on a number of levels. Some of them are as follows:

  1. Logo Design and Corporate Identity Programs
This is often the first thing potential customers see when introduced to your business. It could be something as simple as exchanging business cards.
  2. Promotional Support Materials
Brochures, One-Sheets (flyers), even Direct Mail pieces expand on the idea and/or help to further define your product or service. Even the best of intentions can be detrimental if not carefully thought out. Too much information, too busy (visually), confusing layout, etc. is as good as printing nothing at all. Your customers have to want to read it, with the hope for a call to action on their part.
  3. Intelligent Copyrighting and Conceptual Imagery
Satire, irony, comparisons, and contrast are all good starting points to writing and imagery when you’re trying to get your message across. Taking the high road with a touch of humor or taking the approach of a picture painting a thousand words can all be very effective. Interpreting it initially from the client’s perspective is a creative process, to say the least.
  4. Contiguous Integration of Media
Another aspect to the creative process has to do with understanding the myriad of media outlets or venues in which your image will be represented and to carry the concept throughout. It may all start with a logo design or corporate icon but it may ultimately appear in packaging, in ads, or even billboards. The overall look and feel of your business identity should be easily adaptable to the requirement. This will also help to establish branding or identity with the public at large.

Solid graphic design and conceptual support starts from the ground up and has to begin with you, the business owner. It’s the job of the graphic designer to give life and image to those ideas and make them informational and appealing to those who may in fact be your customers one day. It’s been said many, many times before but it’s still sound advice: you only get one chance to make a first impression…make it a good one!
