DESCRIPTION:

This advanced program uses the techniques taught in the School for Managers as a springboard for high-level management training, offering heavy emphasis on the team process. Learn-by-doing techniques combine with special diagnostic tools, self-evaluation, in-class exercises and immediate feedback for a program that picks up where other training programs leave off. Skills addressed include providing constructive feedback, capitalizing on organizational change, resolving conflict in mutually beneficial terms and re-directing team competition into cooperation. Participants are challenged to apply what they have learned and will learn in this session to work in teams to build the "model" organization from a dysfunctional one.

OBJECTIVES:

Leadership/Communication Styles:
Participate in supervisory surveys to determine your own leadership style.
Explore the strengths and weaknesses of your style as well as that of others.
Recognize the elements of active listening and effective communication.
Translate what you learn into action.

Offering Constructive Feedback:
Identify appropriate levels of feedback.
Construct professional feedback and learn to avoid presenting it as personal.
Develop confidence through excercises and hands-on interaction.
Gain tips to structure successful feedback sessions.

Change and Time Management:
Know how your organization responds to change.
Recognize the responses to change in yourself and others.
Evaluate, re-organize and better manage time.
Develop effective to-do lists.

Conflict Resolution:
Understand different behavioral methods for handing conflict.
Recognize the strengths/weaknesses of your style of handling conflicts.
Engage in on-the-job conflict simulations.
Utilize conflicts creatively to bring problems to the surface, resolve them to mutual satisfaction and even gain an advantage.

Team Building:
Understand task-oriented team-building.
Participate in individual and group team-building skills assessments.
Define the role of leader and others in the team for increased effectiveness.
Learn how to redirect unproductive competition into cooperation.
